Manage Utah's Growth

Citizens and local leaders know their communities the best.

Growth needs to be sensible, fair and practical.

Did you know? Our 3.2 million state population is expected to double by 2065. Many residents feel population growth was too fast and economic development too slow.

Housing and commercial developments should be sustainable including transportation infrastructure, public services (water, sewer, and utilities), public education expansion, and dedicated open green spaces along with financial return.  Let's properly fund transportation infrastructure.

  • Accelerate road construction improvements to keep traffic flowing as our state and local communities grow. We need to focus transportation development funds to areas of rapid growth.

  • Ensure impact fees are not only assessed for public safety, roadways, and parks, but also public education expansion.

Why? These fees help reduce the economic burden local jurisdictions face when dealing with population growth.

  • Develop an integrated multi-generational growth plan for the Wasatch Front. We need strategy and tactics addressing housing, transportation, air quality, and education with a focus on maintaining quality of life. Master development plans need to take into account adjoining communities and housing density. Increase local access to the Transportation Investment Fund to be used for coordination between land development and transportation projects.

  • Encourage publicly owned open wireless networks. I support expansion of internet infrastructure, wireless upgrades and encourage communities throughout Utah to connect to publicly owned open access networks.

Let's Talk Trax

In January 2020, UTA approved a $400K contract to do a comprehensive analysis of Utah's Lightrail. UTA’s transit system, carries over 60,000 riders per day, but it needs to expand for our growing needs.

Let's Talk Housing

Utah has been adding almost 53,000 people to its population each year since 2000. We need to think regionally while acting locally and strive for housing choices.
