Meet Catherine

About Catherine:

About Catherine:

I have real world experiences, been challenged personally and professionally, and I’m passionate about Utah and all of us who live here.

I'll put in the time and effort to make a difference because I care about the efficient use of our tax dollars and I want to ensure programs are achieving their stated objectives and outcomes. I’m a Utahn, your neighbor, and with your support, our State Auditor.

Education and Career Experience:

Education and Career Experience:

I graduated from Weber State University in Accounting and continued my graduate education in the University of Nevada, Reno's (UNR) Master of Professional Accountancy program with an emphasis on Taxation.

During my 25+ years in tax, audit, accounting and business management, my professional experience includes risk assessment, data analysis, design and review of internal controls, regulatory and SEC reporting, compliance and tax filings, tax audit and financial audit. I worked for the Internal Revenue Service, James & Co. Business Advisors & CPAs (Ogden) and Utah companies including: Skullcandy (Park City), Goal Zero (Bluffdale), Fusion-io (Cottonwood Heights), FranklinCovey (Salt Lake City), and Caldera Systems (Orem). I currently own two Coffee Kiosk locations with 25 employees. I've seen first hand and I value how entrepreneurs and small business drive innovation and opportunities here in Utah.

As your State Auditor, I will focus on high cost programs, strengthen integrity and accountability and ensure the most efficient, effective, and economical use of resources.

I am a Utahn:

I am a Utahn:

My family means the world to me. Born and raised in Bountiful, Utah, my parents' values and their examples influenced my attitudes toward education, acceptance and understanding of others, service, and work ethic.

My father, Jed, was a career Union Pacific Railroad employee and a Korean War Veteran. My mother, Carol, was the Nursing Supervisor at the Davis County Mental Health Clinic and received her PhD in Marriage and Family Counseling from Brigham Young University.

My husband, Kurt, and I have married for over 20 years. We selected Herriman as our home in 2002. Our blended family includes 5 children, two cats, and our dog, Lizzie the Pug. I want our children and currently 8 grandchildren who all live in Utah to take advantage of and enjoy the many opportunities and benefits of living here.

This means I have a vested interest, just like you, to ensure Utah's tax dollars and programs are providing services effectively, efficiently, economically, ethically, and equitably.

Volunteerism:

Volunteerism:

I've advocated for and supported mental health initiatives including Suicide Awareness and Prevention programs at the local and state level working with Herriman City, local schools, the Jordan School District, mental health and public health providers.

I volunteered for several organizations including the League of Women Voters, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Utah State Board of Education Instructional Materials Review Committee, and Healthy Herriman. I am currently on the Board of Directors for two non-profits.

Hobbies and Activities:

Hobbies and Activities:

Kurt and I enjoy spending time in the outdoors, skiing, hiking, fishing, and relaxing at our summer cabin in Summit County. I have traveled throughout the world and also enjoy events in Utah including the Utah Air Show at Hill Air Force Base, local car shows and spending time with family. I also enjoy genealogy and family history. I am very proud of my family heritage including being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
